In January of this year my mother & I planned a trip to Aruba. We were able to find & make contact with a local organization, Nine Lives Aruba Foundation, to see what they might need in their efforts to rescue street cats & dog. This became our first JYC fundraiser and we successfully raised enough money to bring them the things that were in short supply on the island; kitten food, airline travel bags as well as a host of other toys, treats, puppy pads etc to assist.

Every shelter fights an uphill battle with abandoned animals & over burgeoning populations and sadly Aruba is no different. Nine Lives Aruba was started by local Geraldine ToroVera Kock, her husband & their friend Terry Daly. It is supported by throngs of volunteers both local and internationally.

I was able to tour the shelter, meet some of the animals in care and deliver supplies funded by generous donations. Mum & I were flight buddies to 4 kittens on our trip back to Boston taking these kitties to their forever & foster homes. NLAF is constantly seeking people to take a kitten or two or a pup with them back to Boston. It is often much easier to find homes for these cast & dogs in the States. If you're planning a trip to Aruba please get in touch, it couldn't be easier and it won't cost you a penny! You get the feel good of knowing you've helped save an animal from a perilous life on the streets.

Nine Lives Aruba Foundation does great work on the island, using a TNR program, colony support & funding veterinary care as well as saving and preparing kittens and puppies for finding their forever homes. Please have a look at their web page & do get in touch if you will be visting Aruba !
